What’s a poetry slam?*
Poetry slam is the competitive art of performance poetry, invented in the 1980s by Marc Smith, a Chicago construction worker. Poets perform their own work and are judged Olympic-style by randomly selected members of the audience.

What’s the difference between an open mic and a poetry slam?*
Open mic performers have one stage opportunity to earn a round of applause. Slammers perform original poems in a scored competition, judged by 5 randomly-chosen audience members. In elimination bouts, the highest scoring poets proceed to a second, and sometimes a third round, in hopes of earning a prize.

 -A three-round, elimination bout!
-So ... be prepared with three original poems
-A three minute time limit applies to all poem
-Slammers may perform from memory or with manuscript in hand
-No costumes, props, or musical accompaniment
- Sign-Up from 6:30 - 7:00
- Slam starts at 7:00
- Winner will receive a surprise prize!
