Annual Maple Open House Weekend

If you’ve visited Vermont or the Northeast Kingdom in March before, or if you’re a nearby resident of the region itself, then you know what March means. If not, I’ll give you a hint: it has nothing to do with basketball. The month of March, for us, is way, way sweeter. This remarkable time of the year is when Vermont’s sugar makers open the doors to their sugarhouses, inviting visitors to experience and enjoy the incredible aroma of boiling sap as they carefully craft pure Vermont maple syrup.

Visitors to sugar houses can expect warm welcomes from their sugar maker hosts as the public eagerly searches for a behind-the-scenes look at the process of making one of their favorite treats. Activities include syrup samples, tours of the sugar house grounds and woods, pancake breakfasts, horse-drawn sleigh rides, sugar-on-snow parties, and plenty of maple products to taste and purchase including maple donuts, cotton candy, and creemees.

One of the best things about maple syrup is its mutability. It can be enjoyed in so many different ways. From cocktails to pizza, the sweetness of maple syrup (especially from Vermont) is only limited by the imagination of your taste buds! Whether it’s the traditional sugar-on-snow, drizzled over ice cream, added to scones, or even combined with the Southern flavors of fajitas, maple syrup is always delicious. Grab a bottle or two to take home with you and try something new this year for Vermont’s Maple Open House Weekend.

Vermont’s Maple Open House Weekend will be held on March 23rd to March 24th, 2019. For more information on the weekend event, click here and plan your visit today!
