Explore the Prettiest Mile in Vermont

A great day trip from Highland Lodge is Darling Hill Road, which is said to be the “prettiest mile in Vermont.” Pass historic barns and ornate Victorian homes while, up ahead, you look towards the landmark of Willoughby Gap.

Rising in popularity, winter fat biking is also available through the Kingdom Trails Nordic Adventure Center. Fat bike rentals can be found at the Village Sport Shop Trailside on Darling Hill as well as East Burke Sports in East Burke. If you’ve visited us before or tackled the trails in the summertime, your favorite ones (Riverwood, anyone?) can now be enjoyed on the bike all year long! Twenty-five miles off Darling Hill Rd have been groomed specifically for fat bikes.

Highland Lodge’s good buddies at Mountain Bike Vermont have partnered with Kingdom Trails once again for the 8th annual WinterBike Fatbike Festival on March 2, 2019. The year brings the largest Winterbike yet: more pedaling people, more groomed trails, more festivities, more fun!

Registration for the event gives you access to the Kingdom Trails network and all Winterbike activities on Saturday including group rides, fatbike demos, lunch and beverages, music, fire, games, race spectation, and swag! More info here
