Taste the Best Beer in the World

While you’re in Greensboro, you may want to take advantage of the front row seats to Hill Farmstead Brewery, right here in Greensboro. As some people line up outside the small farmhouse before open hours, others are navigating eight-hour drives to our small corner in the Northeast Kingdom.

The small operation at Hill Farmstead is kept so purposefully. With its exclusivity, hand picked hops, and top-notch quality, Shaun Hill's local creation has already become a living legend. In Northeast Kingdom tradition, the isolation of Hill Farmstead Brewery has just made it that much more sought after. Just like heirloom tomatoes or other produce, Shaun believes that beer tastes best when it’s fresh and consumed as close to the source as possible. This avoids the mass-production quality of other beers as well as the long shipping process. In fact, besides the fresh draft selections at Highland Lodge, Parker Pie, and a few other places, if you want to taste Hill Farmstead’s famous beer, you have to go to the brewery itself -- which is only open Wednesday through Saturday, year round.

In 2013 and 2015, RateBeer.com named Hill Farmstead Brewery the best brewery in the world (out of 26,000 breweries surveyed) and eight of its beers made it onto the site’s list of 100
best beers in the world. Affectionately named after Shaun Hill's ancestors, who have a long history in Greensboro, a few of the highest-rated beers at Hill Farmstead are Aaron, a barrel-aged barleywine style ale that was named Best Beer in Vermont; Dorothy, a Brett-fermented saison; or Flora, a French oak wine barrel-aged wheat saison. Many other fresh brews are named after Shaun's favorite philosophical topics, like Difference & Repetition. And of course, there are the flagship American Pale Ales like Edward and Susan. But whichever beer you pick will be fragrant and flavorful at Hill Farmstead.

Don't forget to check out the Beer Lover's Package at Highland Lodge, and taste a medley of local craft beers!
