Local Products, General Stores, & More

Nestled in the heart of the Northeast Kingdom, we are surrounded by some of the best producers and crafters in the whole country (these are unbiased accounts, not opinions). Find many of these award-winning products in nearby general stores such as Willey's or Craftsbury General and explore Vermont's culinary scene all in one place. Or head straight to the source and see what the hype is all about...

Craftsbury General Store (Craftsbury)

A Craftsbury Staple! The beloved General Store is stocked with amazing local produce, a wide array of natural foods, extensive beer roster, and the best wine selection on this side of the Atlantic. But the real kicker here is their amazing menu of to go sandwiches and salads during the days, and a globally inspired menu of takeout dinners for you to enjoy at home or in a Highland Lodge cabin hot and ready or prepacked for you to reheat at home. Our personal favorite is the Banh- Mi sandwich paired with a refreshing Yerba Mate. On Sundays the General Store offers freshly made donuts from Local Donut LLC!

Craftsbury General Store offers a wide range of grocery and deli goods, including natural and local foods. Wednesday Globetrotting Dinners and Sunday Supper dinner specials offered weekly. Shop in-person or online, you can always call your order in ahead of time and save the wait.

Ben & Jerry's Ice Cream Factory (Waterbury)

One of Vermont's best known and most beloved businesses through the decades. Check out the home of the Ben & Jerry's phenomenon in Waterbury, VT. Just shy of an hour’s drive from Highland Lodge, you will find their beautiful and impressive factory open to the public for tours, so sign yourself up for an educational experience while you are there (they give you free samples at the end ). A must see for all Vermont visitors.

Jasper Hill Farm

The maker of award-winning cheeses, some of which you will find in the best restaurants up and down the East Coast, and some only here in our quaint little NEK. Jasper Hill does not offer a tasting room or tours, but you can pick up their cheeses at nearby Craftsbury General or Willey's! We feature many of their cheeses on our dinner menu, and on occasion offer cheese tastings at the lodge. Please email us directly to set up one of these tasting affairs for your next event.

Nutty Steph's - Rabble Rouser Chocolate (Montpelier)

Cabot Cheese Factory (Cabot)

While the Cabot Factory Headquarters is no longer offering the cheese tours of the facility itself, it is still worth the drive just to sample all the amazing cheddars you can't find in other grocery stores.
