Or, head straight to the source and see what the hype is all about...

Craftsbury General Store (Craftsbury)

A Craftsbury Staple! A known and beloved General Store with amazing local produce, natural food selections, a wide beer roster, and the best wine selection on this side of the Atlantic. But the real kicker here is their amazing menu of to go sandwiches and salads during the days, and a globally inspired menu of takeout dinners for you to enjoy at home or in a Highland Lodge cabin hot and ready or prepacked for you to reheat at home. Our personal favorite is the Banh- Mi sandwich paired with a refreshing Yerba Mate. On Sundays the General Store offers freshly made donuts from Local Donut LLC!

Craftsbury General Store offers a wide range of grocery and and deli goods including natural and local foods. Wednesday Globetrotting Dinners and Sunday Supper dinner specials offered weekly. Shop in-person or online, you can always call your order in ahead of time and save the wait.

Just shy of an hours drive from Highland Lodge, you will find their beautiful and impressive factory open to the public for tours, so sign yourself up for an educational experience while you are there ( they give you free samples at the end ). We feature many of their cheeses on our dinner menu, and on occasion offer cheese tastings at the lodge. You can email us directly to set up one of these tasting affairs for your next event.

Nutty Steph's - Rabble Rouser Chocolate (Montpelier)

Nutty Steph's is a local, employee owned chocolate/other confection's creator with a heart of gold. Home of the "Liberally Salted Bernie Chocolates" and Planned Parenthood "Choco Vulvas" these guys have been making waves for years! They create luscious chocolate using top-quality cacao beans and return fair wages to the farmers who grow them.  They distribute the incredibly popular  Vermont Granolachocolate barsCBD confections, and other handcrafted delights to food coops and independent grocers across the country, but a visit to their factory store in historic downtown Montpelier to sip an espresso, witness the magic of their work, and indulge in exclusive on-site confections is where it's at. Pop over to their location in Montpelier and enjoy the scene, and when you're finished you are just a quick ride to the new solar powered Barr Hill- Caledonia Spirits Facility.

While the Cabot Factory Headquarters is no longer offering the cheese tours of the facility itself, it is still worth the drive just to sample all the amazing cheddars you can't find in other grocery stores. From Everything Bagel to Buffalo style cheddar, they do not dissapoint with the flavor spectrum offerings. You can pop into their gift shop or schedule a seating in the film room which documents the local farms & cooperatives, philanthropic ideals, and cheese making process from start to finish. You can't come to Vermont and not indulge in the Cabot experience!
